Ingredients:

1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed

1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (about 1 large lemon)

1/4 cup tahini (sesame paste)

1 small garlic clove

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

Salt to taste

2 to 3 tablespoons water

Optional toppings: extra olive oil, paprika, or chopped parsley

How to make hummus:

  • In a food processor or blender, combine the chickpeas, lemon juice, tahini, garlic, olive oil and a pinch of salt.
  • Process the ingredients until smooth and creamy. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides of the bowl a few times to make sure everything is well blended.
  • If the hummus seems too thick, you can add 2 to 3 tablespoons of water, one tablespoon at a time, and continue processing until you reach your desired consistency.
  • Taste the hummus and add more salt if needed. You can also adjust the flavours by adding more lemon juice or garlic to suit your preference.
  • Once the hummus is ready, transfer it to a serving bowl. You can drizzle some extra olive oil on top and sprinkle with paprika or chopped parsley.
  • Serve the hummus with pita bread, fresh vegetables, or your favourite dipping items.
